Los Angeles County supervisors gave approval to breweries and wineries to open on October 6th for outdoor service, providing much-needed relief for businesses that have been closed continuously for over six months, according to KTLA News. Measures such as reservations, social distancing, limited hours, and other safety measures will still be in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Before this motion passed, only breweries and wineries with a full restaurant component were allowed to resume service for outdoor dining. Breweries and wineries would join the multitude of LA restaurants who have had the chance to reopen for outdoor service in recent months. Despite the loosening of these restrictions for LA’s crucial craft beer and wine industry, the county remains in the purple, or most restrictive, tier. via Eater LA
Supervisor Janice Hahn, who brought the motion forward, said the county has made progress in slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus, adding that the county did not see a spike in cases after Labor Day. “I think it is time that we allow our breweries and wineries to resume outdoor service consistent with the State orders,” said Hahn, adding that the vote aligns with the state’s health orders — even for counties in the strictest category of new infections. The board passed the motion with a 3-2 vote.
